Security Engineer
Helsing is a defense AI company dedicated to protecting democracies through technological leadership. As a Security Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in building a secure foundation for our applications and cloud architecture. This position is based in Washington, DC, as part of our inaugural U.S.-based engineering team.
In this role, you will be responsible for uniting security and engineering efforts, spanning from cloud architecture to application Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and vulnerability scanning. Your day-to-day tasks will include designing and implementing secure cloud infrastructure, automating security configurations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, and continuously monitoring our organization's cloud infrastructure across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. Additionally, you will conduct deep-dive analyses of cloud-native security logs to detect and remediate threats, manage identity and access controls, and perform regular vulnerability assessments.
The ideal candidate possesses 3–5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, with at least 2+ years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure security. Proficiency in native security tools (e.g., AWS Security Hub, Azure Defender) and third-party tools (e.g., Wiz, Snyk) is essential. Strong scripting capabilities in languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell are required, along with deep knowledge of Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation. A thorough understanding of networking protocols and virtual networking is also necessary.
Helsing offers a generous compensation and benefits package, including insurance coverage (medical and travel), flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and options for remote and/or hybrid work depending on the position. The actual base salary offered will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, education, skill level, and interview performance.
Joining Helsing means contributing directly to the protection of democratic countries while balancing ethical and geopolitical concerns. The work is unique, operating in a domain with highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world. Helsing actively encourages healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it, fostering a culture of responsible autonomy and critical thinking.
