Clifford Chance, a leading international law firm, is seeking a Senior Associate for its Restructuring & Insolvency team in Amsterdam. This team is recognized as Band 1 in the Dutch market and is part of one of the strongest international restructuring practices globally. The role involves advising financial institutions, companies, sponsors, and investors on complex, cross-border restructurings, liability management, rescue financings, WHOA plans, and distressed M&A scenarios.
Key responsibilities include structuring and negotiating amend-and-extend transactions, rescue and new money financings, liability management exercises, security packages, and enforcement scenarios. The role also involves advising on WHOA plans and their interaction with foreign restructuring schemes and insolvency proceedings, assessing insolvency, security, and property law risks, and collaborating with colleagues across various practices and offices to deliver integrated advice. Building trusted client relationships and developing a profile in the Dutch restructuring market are also essential aspects of the position.
Candidates should have at least 6 years of experience as a Dutch-qualified lawyer in banking & finance, predominantly in private practice. Those with 4 to 5 years of experience and the right transactional background are also encouraged to apply. A solid finance transaction experience, a genuine interest in insolvency law and property law (goederenrecht), a strong academic background, and first-class drafting skills are required. Fluency in Dutch and English, along with highly developed analytical and project management skills, are essential. A collaborative, solution-focused approach is also important.
The compensation package includes a seat in a Band 1 restructuring practice, direct client contact, and meaningful responsibility from the start. The firm offers an international practice with shared mandates, secondments, and development opportunities across its global network. The team is described as ambitious, informal, and collegial, where individual contributions are visible.
