Senior Backend Engineer, SOC & Threat Hunting
Censys is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer II to join our team. In this role, you will develop specialized tools for threat hunters, SOC analysts, and incident response professionals within the Censys Platform. Your work will focus on advancing our Adversary Investigation module by designing resilient APIs and scalable microservices for our SaaS infrastructure. Collaborating with engineering and product teams, you will transform complex requirements into sustainable software that delivers critical security intelligence, enabling users to navigate the global Internet, identify emerging threats, and strengthen their organizational defenses.
Key responsibilities include architecting and refining robust backend services to enhance the Adversary Investigation module's capabilities. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Frontend teams to create impactful solutions for our customers. Maintaining end-to-end ownership of the development cycle, you will automate builds, testing, deployment, and ongoing monitoring. Additionally, you will integrate internal systems and external APIs to facilitate data-intensive user experiences and engage in a fast-paced, iterative environment focused on technical excellence and proactive feedback loops.
The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of professional experience building distributed web applications and APIs, with at least 2 years of experience developing microservices in Go. Proficiency with at least one cloud provider, such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, is required. Familiarity with Docker and a desire to improve CI/CD deployment processes are essential. Strong communication and documentation skills are necessary to explain complex technical concepts to various stakeholders. The ability to participate thoughtfully in technical discussions and make data-driven decisions amidst ambiguity and competing priorities is also important.
For high cost of living areas (San Francisco Bay, New York City, and Seattle), the expected salary range for this position is $143,000 USD - $177,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity. For all other US locations, the expected salary range is $125,000 USD - $165,000 USD, plus bonus eligibility and equity.
