Senior Component Engineer
Graphcore is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Senior Component Engineer to join their Manufacturing Operations team in the UK. This role involves close collaboration with Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support both new product introduction and volume manufacturing. The successful candidate will manage the specification, selection, and sourcing of components required to manufacture products that meet performance, reliability, quality, and yield standards.
Key responsibilities include supporting the selection, evaluation, and qualification of electronic and electro-mechanical components to meet design and manufacturing requirements. The role also involves creating and maintaining approved component lists and Bills of Material (BoM) revisions using tools like Arena BoM management. Ensuring components and products meet industry compliance requirements for quality, emissions, safety, and the environment is essential. Additionally, the engineer will survey the market to identify or develop enabling component technologies for next-generation products and assess component supply risks, manage obsolescence, and propose alternative sourcing solutions to ensure continuity of supply. Occasional global travel to supplier sites may be required.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth working knowledge of BoM management and sourcing systems such as Arena and Silicon Expert. They should possess excellent electronics knowledge and familiarity with component parameters and datasheets, along with a good understanding of PCB manufacturing and SMT assembly processes. The ability to understand the interaction and dependencies between silicon, package, and PCB design is crucial. Experience working with leading-edge suppliers in the electronics supply chain, preferably with offshore contract manufacturers, is desirable. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are necessary to collaborate effectively across global teams. Proficiency in using data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI) to support component and supply chain decisions is also required. A BEng/HND in Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience is expected.
In addition to a competitive salary, Graphcore offers flexible working, a generous annual leave policy, private medical insurance and health cash plan, a dental plan, pension (matched up to 5%), life assurance, and income protection. They have a generous parental leave policy and an employee assistance programme, which includes health, mental wellbeing, and bereavement support. The central Bristol office provides a range of healthy food and snacks and features an in-house barista bar.
