Democracy Forward is seeking a Senior Counsel to advance its mission of promoting pro-democracy and progressive policies through litigation and regulatory engagement. This role involves collaborating with a dedicated team to address significant legal challenges and advocate for social progress.

The Senior Counsel will lead or co-counsel in federal and state court proceedings, advising clients on litigation strategies and managing cases from initiation through appeal. Responsibilities include representing clients before federal agencies, drafting legal documents such as complaints and briefs, and engaging in regulatory processes like rulemakings and agency hearings. Additionally, the role involves developing client relationships, managing coalitions, and mentoring junior legal staff.

Candidates must possess a J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the District of Columbia Bar or eligibility for admission. A minimum of seven years of relevant legal experience is required, preferably involving litigation against or on behalf of federal or state governments and advocacy in the federal regulatory process. Strong legal research and drafting skills, familiarity with applicable legal doctrines, and the ability to manage multiple assignments are essential.

Democracy Forward offers a competitive, transparent compensation and benefits package. The salary range for Senior Counsel positions is $175,000 to $205,000 annually, based on years of relevant experience and seniority.
