Canonical is seeking a Senior Design Researcher to join its Design Team, focusing on the evolving discipline of User Science. This role is integral to expanding beyond traditional UX research by integrating user needs throughout the company's development processes and quality standards. The position reports to the User Science Manager and is based remotely within the EMEA region.

The Senior Design Researcher will be responsible for conducting comprehensive user research to develop insights across various product areas. Key duties include sharing findings through tailored presentations and clear documentation, collaborating with process, product, and engineering teams to embed user research into decision-making, and managing research operations to enhance scalability and accessibility. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the definition of User Science by developing user-centered training and resources.

Candidates should possess a strong academic background, with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, such as user interviews, usability testing, A/B testing, surveys, and data analysis, is essential. A deep technical curiosity aligned with open-source culture, proficiency in visual or information design, and exceptional storytelling and organizational skills are also required. Applicants must provide a robust portfolio demonstrating their ability to derive actionable insights that have influenced product design, strategy, or organizational change.
