Senior Director, Legal - Corporate and Commercial
The Senior Director, Legal - Corporate and Commercial at Scout Motors will lead the Corporate and Commercial Legal Team, overseeing legal matters including purchasing (direct and indirect), real estate, direct sales/commercial, and corporate governance and structuring. This role serves as the primary legal advisor to internal clients, including the heads of the purchasing and commercial functions, providing both legal and strategic advice. Additionally, the position is a member of the Legal Leadership Team, contributing strategic insights on the administration, growth, and development of the Legal Team.
Key responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and supporting contracts and other legal documents related to procurement, manufacturing, operations, logistics, real estate, sales, marketing, and product matters. The role involves developing form documentation, templates, and contracting processes, procedures, and training for the Purchasing Team, as well as supporting other purchasing matters such as indirect purchasing and intercompany agreements. The Senior Director will also lead and collaborate with other Legal Team colleagues on special projects to cultivate Scout Motors’ legal culture and functions.
The ideal candidate will possess a J.D. from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the bar in at least one U.S. state. A minimum of 12 years of legal experience is required, with a strong preference for a combination of law firm and in-house experience, automotive industry experience, and supervisory experience. Significant experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements is essential. The candidate should demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, time-management, and organizational skills, along with the ability to work well across departments and with company leaders to strengthen company culture through effective collaboration. Keen attention to detail is also crucial.
This role is based out of Scout Motors' corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC, requiring 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events. Applicants should expect the role to involve convening with Scout colleagues in person and traveling to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
