Senior Engineering Manager, AI Platform

Duolingo is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the AI Tooling and Ecosystem Team, focusing on developing tools and services that integrate AI into Duolingo's educational products. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of AI at Duolingo, enabling product teams to build AI-powered features efficiently.

The Senior Engineering Manager will oversee the creation of systems for managing AI datasets, evaluating model performance, and establishing AI workflows. Responsibilities include defining success criteria for AI use cases, selecting appropriate models, and constructing feedback loops for prompt optimization. The role also involves streamlining AI development processes to accommodate teams with varying levels of AI expertise.

Candidates should have experience leading software and/or AI engineering teams, with a proven track record in building AI-related infrastructure or user-facing AI products. Familiarity with AI evaluation methods, particularly those combining human and LLM-as-a-judge evaluations, is essential. Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills are required to align AI, product, data science, and platform partners on strategy and execution.

The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $204,000 to $306,000 USD, supplemented by equity compensation. Additional benefits and perks are provided to support employee well-being and professional growth.
