Senior Lab Technician
Graphcore, a leading semiconductor company specializing in AI compute systems, is seeking a Senior Lab Technician to join their Austin, Texas team. This role is integral to supporting product development and prototype builds within a dynamic startup environment. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the engineering team to assemble prototypes, solder electronic components, maintain laboratory equipment, and manage inventory of consumables.
Key responsibilities include reworking through-hole and surface-mount electronic components, assembling mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical assemblies from minimal documentation, and assisting with prototype integration, testing, and design iterations. The technician will also conduct basic functional testing and inspections of various PCBAs, support engineers with test setups, troubleshooting, and product validation activities, and document assembly processes, observations, and test results. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized laboratory and assembly workspace, preparing tools, materials, and equipment for development activities, coordinating maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures and operational best practices are also essential duties.
Candidates should possess an associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics, manufacturing, engineering technology, or a related field. Experience soldering surface mount parts and the ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, schematics, and technical documentation are required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, basic computer skills (including spreadsheet and inventory tracking applications), and the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities are essential. Preferred qualifications include experience in a startup, R&D, prototype, or product development environment, familiarity with electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies, experience with electromechanical assembly and troubleshooting, IPC soldering certification or equivalent experience, and experience with purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination.
