Senior Legal Counsel
The Senior Legal Counsel at Success Academy Charter Schools is a key leadership position within the organization’s legal department, providing in-depth legal guidance to support the mission of one of the nation’s leading charter school networks. Working closely with executive leadership, the Senior Legal Counsel ensures compliance, minimizes legal risks, and protects the interests of Success Academy in all operational and academic matters.
Day-to-day, the Senior Legal Counsel will oversee a range of legal issues, including regulatory compliance, labor and employment matters, student and special education, contracts, litigation oversight, and governance. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing legal documents, advising on policy development, managing outside counsel, responding to investigations, and supporting the organization in negotiations and strategic decision-making. The role requires balancing proactive risk management with responsive, solution-oriented legal support.
Candidates for this position should possess a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in New York state. A minimum of 7 years of substantial legal experience, preferably including work in education law and employment law, is required. Strong candidates will demonstrate excellent judgment, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of managing complex legal matters in a fast-paced environment. Experience advising mission-driven or high-growth organizations is highly valued.
