Vattenfall is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its UK Heat business, focusing on providing low carbon heat and energy services across the UK. This role involves working closely with the Managing Director, business directors, sales, delivery, and project managers to support the development and operation of large-scale heating and cooling network schemes. The position reports to the Director of Legal, UK, and is integral to Vattenfall's mission of achieving fossil-free living within one generation.

The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for negotiating and drafting a variety of commercial contracts, including those of a public nature, related to the delivery, supply, construction, and operation of energy solutions. Key duties include structuring new contractual relationships, advising on public/private corporate structures, and managing both organic and inorganic growth initiatives. The role also requires understanding and mitigating risks between upstream and downstream contracts, as well as negotiating connection and supply arrangements.

Candidates should possess a strong background in corporate, commercial, and/or construction law, with experience in handling comprehensive contractual relationships from inception to completion. Experience in negotiating land rights is advantageous, or a willingness to develop skills in this area. Familiarity with project contracts in the district heating or utilities market, in either the public or private sector, is ideal. Experience in renewable energy projects is also beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be commercially aware, pragmatic, and capable of working effectively under pressure. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strategic thinking and a risk-based approach to providing legal advice are crucial for success in this role.
