Senior Research Scientist - Audio & Video AI

The Senior Research Scientist - Audio & Video AI role at Canva is part of the audio-video storytelling research team within Canva Research. This team focuses on making audio storytelling accessible and intuitive for users, contributing to the company's mission of empowering the world to design.

In this position, the scientist will collaborate closely with Research Engineers to translate theoretical research in audio, video, and multimodal AI into practical applications. Responsibilities include leading research initiatives aligned with both short-term product goals and long-term strategic objectives, developing innovative model architectures for content generation and analysis, and optimizing models for efficiency across large distributed systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience in developing, training, and iterating foundational or open models, a strong publication record or evidence of research impact, and a deep understanding of AI models such as Diffusion Models, GANs, or Transformers. Proficiency in Python, PyTorch or Jax, and cloud computing platforms is essential, along with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
