Senior Researcher Engineer - GenAI (Design Generation)

Canva is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to join its Design Generation team, which focuses on developing AI models and pipelines that enable users to create stunning designs effortlessly. The Senior Research Engineer will design, experiment with, and evaluate generative AI models tailored for design applications. Responsibilities include translating research findings into production-ready systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align research with user needs, analyzing model performance through quantitative and qualitative metrics, contributing to technical discussions and long-term AI strategies, and sharing insights to uplift the broader team.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with 3-5 years of relevant work experience; a PhD is advantageous. Required skills include proficiency in generative models such as large language models, diffusion models, and multimodal architectures; experience in training techniques like fine-tuning and reinforcement learning; expertise in deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, and HuggingFace; strong capabilities in experimental design and evaluation; and competence in data curation and analysis.
