Senior Software Engineer - Developer Experience (open to remote across ANZ)
Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Developer Experience (DevX) group, which focuses on enhancing the software development process for engineers across the company. The DevX group comprises three subgroups: Automation Pipeline, Developer Workflows, and Build & Collaboration. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely across Australia and New Zealand, with options to work from Canva's campuses in Sydney, Melbourne, or co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
In this position, the engineer will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing complex infrastructure projects that span multiple systems and domains. Key responsibilities include creating automation tools to eliminate repetitive manual tasks, building self-service platforms and command-line interfaces to reduce dependency on platform teams, and developing monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tools to proactively identify issues. Collaboration with engineering teams to understand their requirements and translate business needs into scalable solutions is also a critical aspect of the role.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in platform engineering, with solid programming experience in Python and Go; experience with Java or TypeScript is a plus. A proven track record of building and operating systems at scale, supporting large engineering organizations, and strong experience with AWS or GCP (Canva uses AWS) are essential. Proficiency in containerization and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes in production environments, as well as experience with CI/CD pipelines, monorepo build tools like Bazel, and infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation, are highly valued.
Canva offers a range of benefits, including equity packages, an inclusive parental leave policy, an annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support well-being and social connection, and flexible leave options. The company fosters a culture of ownership, purpose, and a shared commitment to excellence, providing opportunities for professional growth and development.
