Senior Software Engineer - (Java) - Canva AI - (Open to remote across ANZ)
Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Java to join the Canva AI Group. This team is responsible for the end-to-end core product experiences and the conductor platform that powers Canva AI, aiming to deliver intuitive conversational experiences for users worldwide. The role is open to remote candidates across Australia and New Zealand, with options to work from Canva's campuses in Sydney, Melbourne, or co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
In this position, you will be hands-on in implementing critical path code, driving complex projects from inception through to production. Collaboration with teams across Canva is essential to evolve Canva AI into a platform that easily integrates diverse capabilities. Mentoring and guiding backend engineers, introducing best practices to uphold engineering excellence, improve system reliability, and reduce technical debt are key responsibilities. Additionally, you will act as a thought leader, guiding platform strategy by deeply understanding stakeholder pain points and proactively identifying issues.
The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer with a strong bias for action, willing to dive deep and take calculated risks. A product-minded engineering approach is essential, with the ability to influence platform initiatives strategically. A deep sense of ownership and a track record of delivering end-to-end projects are crucial.
