Senior Software Engineer (Localization)
Mozilla is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Localization Team, which manages the infrastructure supporting localization across all Mozilla products and services. This team also collaborates with a global community of volunteer localizers to ensure Mozilla's offerings are accessible worldwide. As a Senior Engineer, you will contribute to various localization projects and technologies, including open-source libraries like moz-l10n and Pontoon, Mozilla's Django-based Translation Management System. Your work will directly influence the internationalization features of Firefox and other Mozilla products, with opportunities to engage in developing standards such as Unicode MessageFormat and DOM Localization.
In this role, you will develop and maintain Python and JavaScript libraries and tools that support Mozilla's localization infrastructure. You will enhance localization and internationalization within the Firefox codebase, making features more adaptable and accessible across different languages and regions. Collaborating with engineers and program managers, you will design and implement new features for Pontoon. Additionally, you will engage with the community of volunteer developers and localizers to support and guide Mozilla's localization efforts, ensuring effective collaboration across regions and time zones.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in developing and maintaining libraries and tools using Python and JavaScript, along with a solid understanding of web technologies, APIs, and modern development workflows. Experience with open-source development practices and community collaboration is essential. The ability to work effectively in a distributed team across time zones and disciplines is crucial. Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and the ability to work across technical and non-technical roles, are required. Professional fluency in English, both written and verbal, is necessary.
