Senior Software Engineer (Observability)
Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Observability Insights, Metrics, and Profiles Team, a key component of the Observability sub-group. This team is dedicated to enhancing the end-to-end experience for visualization, metrics, continuous profiling, and standardized alerting across Canva's products and services. The role involves designing, building, and continuously improving observability platforms, pipelines, and tools utilized by all Canva engineers.
Key responsibilities include providing technical leadership to drive pragmatic solutions and impactful design decisions, optimizing metrics and continuous profiling platforms, and refining their operational effectiveness and reliability. The engineer will proactively improve the user experience related to metrics and continuous profiling querying, visualization, and monitoring, while advocating for best practices. Participation in team ceremonies, knowledge sharing, and brainstorming sessions is expected, along with championing observability best practices and guiding other Canva engineers in this domain.
The ideal candidate is proficient in Python, Golang, and/or Java, with a deep understanding of computer engineering fundamentals. Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform and Jsonnet, is essential. Practical experience with AWS services such as EC2, EKS, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, S3, and MSK, or their equivalents, is required. Competency with observability technologies like Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry is necessary, along with experience in building highly reliable and scalable distributed data pipeline systems.
