Senior Software Engineer - Product & Features (Java) - Open to remote across ANZ
Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Java to join our Product & Features team. This role focuses on developing scalable backend services that power our design platform, enabling millions of users worldwide to create and collaborate seamlessly. As part of a dynamic engineering team, you'll contribute to Canva's mission of democratizing design by building robust systems that support innovative product features.
In this position, you will lead the design and development of reliable backend services using modern frameworks and tools. Collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers, you'll scope, define, and deliver impactful product features. Your responsibilities will include evolving Canva's backend architecture through thoughtful service design, system decomposition, and shared tooling, as well as championing reliability, performance, and engineering best practices across multiple service domains.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience building complex backend systems in production environments and possesses strong Java fundamentals, including proficiency in multithreading, service design, and performance optimization. You should be comfortable taking ownership of features end-to-end, from architecture to delivery, and thrive in environments where you drive the "how." A balance of attention to detail with pragmatism is essential, along with a consistent track record of shipping reliable, maintainable code at speed. Experience with AI in coding and programming is also highly valued.
