Senior Software Engineer - Product & Features (Java) - Open to remote across ANZ
Canva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Product & Features team, focusing on backend development using Java. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely across Australia and New Zealand, aligning with our commitment to empowering our team members to choose the work environment that best suits them. As part of a dynamic team, you'll contribute to building scalable APIs, enhancing system performance, and developing internal tools that support millions of user interactions daily.
In this position, you will lead the design and development of reliable backend services, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver impactful product features. Your responsibilities will include evolving Canva’s backend architecture, championing engineering best practices, and maintaining service health and performance. Additionally, you'll mentor peers, conduct code reviews, and proactively identify areas for technical improvement.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience building complex backend systems in production environments, with strong Java fundamentals and proficiency in multithreading, service design, and performance optimization. You should be comfortable taking ownership of features from architecture to delivery, possess a collaborative mindset, and have a track record of mentoring others. Experience with AI in coding and programming is also highly valued.
