ERGO NEXT is seeking a Senior Staff Counsel to establish and lead its new in-house litigation office in Texas. As a founding member of the Texas staff counsel office, the Senior Staff Counsel will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload of civil litigation matters, primarily focusing on general liability cases in Texas state courts. The role involves handling all phases of litigation, from initial investigation to trial and post-trial activities. Additionally, the Senior Staff Counsel will collaborate with legal and claims teams to establish and operationalize the new office, develop processes, select and implement technology, and align office objectives with the broader company strategy. A key aspect of the role is to identify and implement opportunities for process automation, workflow enhancements, and efficient digital case management, consistent with ERGO NEXT's digital-first approach.

Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and be an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas; standing in additional jurisdictions is preferred. A minimum of 5-9 years of proven trial attorney experience, preferably within insurance defense litigation or a related field, is required. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of Texas law and civil procedure, particularly concerning personal injury, general liability, and commercial auto cases. Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills are essential, along with proficiency in legal case management software, e-discovery tools, and remote collaboration technologies. A strong business acumen and an “ownership mentality” are crucial, with the ability to capitalize on advancing technology and efficiency.
