Senior Systems Engineer, Depot Automation
As a Senior Systems Engineer in Depot Automation at Waymo, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement requirements, system architecture, and verification strategies for new depot automation features, such as automated low power mode switching. This role involves working closely with software engineers, product managers, and operations leads to ensure the seamless integration of these features into Waymo's autonomous vehicle operations.
Your primary responsibilities will include developing a deep technical understanding of existing and new depot automation features, driving robust end-to-end verification and monitoring systems to meet high efficacy goals, and creating qualification methods to launch new features and depots. Additionally, you will debug field issues to determine root causes, implement solutions with cross-functional teams, and extend existing depot automation features to new vehicle platforms to ensure feature parity across Waymo's diverse fleet.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical field, along with at least 5 years of experience in systems engineering, software development, or a related area. A systems engineering mindset, proactive and data-driven problem-solving abilities, and comfort with managing multiple projects in ambiguous environments are essential. Proficiency in reading C++ for feature implementation and debugging, as well as the ability to query data sets (SQL) and create dashboards for performance monitoring, are also required.
Preferred qualifications include a strong foundation in systems engineering fundamentals such as requirements definition, formal verification, and validation methods. Experience with test development, including simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, deploying products at scale, and software integration testing, will be advantageous.
