Shift Lead
The Shift Lead at Wayve is a frontline operational leader responsible for overseeing autonomous driving operations in Japan. This role involves managing daily activities to ensure safety and efficiency, while fostering an inclusive environment where Vehicle Safety Operators (VSOs) feel valued and can voice concerns freely. The Shift Lead collaborates closely with engineering, fleet operations, and automotive stakeholders to support real-world AI development.
Key responsibilities include leading and supporting a team of VSOs during live testing operations, ensuring high standards of professionalism, communication, safety, and execution. The Shift Lead manages shift execution across active fleet operations, coordinating personnel, vehicles, schedules, and operational priorities in real time. Additional duties encompass performance management, customer engagement, safety and compliance enforcement, quality control, problem-solving, communication, reporting and documentation, incident management, training and development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate remains calm and controlled under pressure, embraces feedback with a growth mindset, thrives in team environments, and effectively manages personal well-being, including fatigue and stress. Essential qualifications include proven experience as a team coordinator or similar role, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities, excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office suite. Candidates must be available to work full-time on-site at Wayve's Japan operational hubs, with flexibility to support testing activities, customer operations, or critical events outside standard hours.
