As a Software Engineer specializing in Airborne Mission Systems at Helsing, you will be instrumental in developing the core mission-control infrastructure for our Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV), the CA-1 Europa. This role places you at the forefront of integrating advanced AI capabilities into defense technologies, contributing directly to the protection of democratic societies. Helsing is a defense AI company committed to technological leadership, ensuring that open societies can maintain sovereign decisions and uphold ethical standards.

In this position, your primary responsibilities will include building sophisticated infrastructure that enables real-time sensor processing, secure communication, and seamless integration of autonomous decision-making modules with lower-level flight control systems. You will work on distributed systems and communications, embedded computing, networking, and deployment and integration infrastructure. Your contributions will be critical to the CA-1 Europa's ability to operate effectively in diverse and challenging environments.

The ideal candidate will possess strong backend or embedded development experience, ideally with languages such as Rust, Go, or C++. Proficiency in developing distributed systems and a commitment to writing legible, maintainable, and performant code are essential. Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing, are required, along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work asynchronously. A dedication to continuous self-improvement and an ethical approach to engineering are highly valued.

Helsing offers a focus on outcomes rather than time-tracking, competitive compensation and stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events to foster a cohesive team environment across Europe. This is an opportunity to work with world-leading experts, contribute to meaningful projects, and advance your career in a dynamic and mission-driven organization.

Joining Helsing means becoming part of a team that values open and transparent culture, encourages healthy debates on the use of technology in defense, and is committed to ethical considerations in engineering. You will have the opportunity to engage in unique engineering and AI challenges, work near the state-of-the-art in technical innovation, and contribute to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns.
