Software Engineer, Backend
As a Software Engineer on the Public Sector team at Motive, you will design and build products that modernize compliance, fleet, and driver management solutions. Your work will help customers reduce manual tasks, increase productivity, and enhance road safety. Motive serves nearly 100,000 customers across various industries, including transportation, construction, and agriculture.
In this role, you will collaborate across teams to design, deliver, and support scalable product features. You will make scalable design choices while championing quality and simplicity. Additionally, you will leverage AI tools such as Cursor and CoPilot to increase productivity and code quality. Building appropriate monitoring, logging, and debugging tools for system health is also part of your responsibilities. Mentoring and learning from developers within the engineering organization is encouraged.
The ideal candidate holds a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, with at least 4 years of software development experience. Proficiency in building product infrastructure, distributed systems, and data models is essential. Experience with languages such as Ruby on Rails, Go, Java, or JavaScript/Node.js is required. Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and Cassandra is important. Experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or private clouds is also necessary.
Motive offers a competitive compensation package, with salaries ranging from $125,000 to $156,000 CAD, depending on location and experience. This is a hybrid role, requiring presence in the Toronto or Vancouver office two days per week.
