Software Engineer, Backend
As a Software Engineer on the Public Sector team at Motive, you will design and build products that modernize compliance, fleet, and driver management solutions. Your work will help customers reduce manual tasks, increase productivity, and enhance road safety. This role involves developing scalable infrastructure and APIs within a team dedicated to making a significant impact on the physical economy.
Your primary responsibilities include collaborating across teams to design, deliver, and support scalable product features. You will make design choices that prioritize quality and simplicity, leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and code quality, and implement monitoring, logging, and debugging tools to ensure system health. Additionally, you will mentor and learn from fellow developers within the engineering organization.
The ideal candidate holds a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, with at least 4 years of software development experience. Proficiency in building product infrastructure, distributed systems, and data models is essential. Experience with languages such as Ruby on Rails, Go, Java, or JavaScript/Node.js, as well as familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and Cassandra, is required. Experience with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or private clouds is also necessary.
This hybrid role requires presence in our Toronto or Vancouver office two days per week. Compensation ranges from $125,000 to $156,000 CAD annually, depending on location and experience.
