Software Engineer - Embedded NixOS
Helsing is a defense AI company dedicated to protecting democracies through technological leadership, enabling open societies to maintain sovereign decisions and ethical standards. As a Software Engineer specializing in Embedded NixOS, you will join a committed team of engineers and AI specialists working on complex and impactful problems in the defense sector. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and deployment of advanced military systems, including reconnaissance-strike drones.
In this position, your primary responsibility will be to set up, deploy, and debug embedded NixOS systems. This work will span both small-scale research and development projects and large-scale production of military hardware. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the reliability and performance of embedded systems in mission-critical applications.
The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of GNU/Linux system development, including experience with bootloaders, debugging tools like gdb and strace, and familiarity with C calling conventions. Proficiency in NixOS, gained through professional or open-source projects, is essential. Experience with low-level or system programming in languages such as C, C++, or Rust is required. Additionally, knowledge of embedded Linux technologies, network protocols, and OS-level security engineering within the Linux ecosystem is highly valued.
Helsing offers a focus on outcomes rather than time-tracking, competitive compensation and stock options, relocation support, social and education allowances, and regular company events to foster team cohesion across Europe. A comprehensive onboarding program, known as "Infraduction," provides new hires with the opportunity to build tooling and applications used company-wide, facilitating a deep understanding of the tech stack and company operations from the outset.
Joining Helsing means becoming part of an ambitious and mission-driven team that embraces an open and transparent culture. The company encourages healthy debates on the use of technology in defense, its benefits, and its ethical implications. This environment offers significant growth opportunities and the chance to work on projects that have a meaningful impact on protecting democratic values.
