Helsing is seeking a Software Engineer - Infrastructure to join our inaugural U.S.-based engineering team in Washington, DC. As a defense AI company committed to protecting democracies, we are establishing a secure and compliant cloud infrastructure to support our mission in the U.S. market. This role offers a unique opportunity to build foundational infrastructure from the ground up, working at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and national security.

In this position, you will be responsible for designing and implementing AWS GovCloud infrastructure that meets CMMC Level 2 requirements, preparing us for certification. Your day-to-day tasks will include maintaining Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling, managing Kubernetes workload infrastructure for builds and AI training, and co-developing developer tools in Python and Rust. Additionally, you will work with vendors and partners to integrate third-party tools while ensuring our security and compliance standards are upheld.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with AWS, including designing and operating production infrastructure at scale, with a preference for experience in AWS GovCloud or creating compliant AWS environments. Proficiency with Kubernetes and familiarity with cloud-native technologies such as Helm, ArgoCD, or Flux are essential. Strong skills in Infrastructure as Code, particularly with Terraform, and the ability to write clean, maintainable code in Python or Rust are required. Effective communication skills in both technical and compliance contexts are crucial, as is the ability to obtain a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret preferred). Candidates should be prepared to work in a hybrid environment in Washington, DC, with occasional travel to customer sites or European offices.

We offer a generous compensation and benefits package, including insurance coverage (medical and travel), flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and options for remote and/or hybrid work depending on the position. Our focus is on outcomes rather than time-tracking, providing a supportive environment for professional growth.

At Helsing, you'll have the opportunity to work with world-leading experts in their fields, directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing ethical and geopolitical considerations. Our work involves unique engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world. We encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about our work and how we choose to do it, fostering a culture of responsible autonomy and critical thinking.
