Software Engineer, Systems Generalist

Thinking Machines Lab is seeking a Software Engineer, Systems Generalist to join our mission of advancing collaborative general intelligence. As part of a small, high-impact team, you'll be responsible for architecting and scaling the core infrastructure that powers our foundation models and supports research and product development efforts.

In this role, you'll work across the full technical stack, solving complex distributed systems problems and building robust, scalable platforms. Your contributions will be critical in accelerating experiments, improving infrastructure efficiency, and enabling key insights across our models, products, and data assets.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Python or Rust, is required, along with experience operating large-scale clusters and container orchestration systems like Kubernetes or Slurm. A strong ability to collaborate across teams and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential.

This position is based in San Francisco, California, with an expected annual salary range of $350,000 to $475,000 USD, depending on background, skills, and experience. Thinking Machines Lab offers generous health and dental benefits, and visa sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
