Sr Software Engineer (Audio)

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Platform Audio team in San Mateo, California. This team is at the forefront of audio technology, developing system libraries for current and next-generation PlayStation products. The role involves designing and implementing technologies for 3D audio, hardware digital signal processing (DSP), and virtual reality, forming the foundation of an SDK used by leading game and content developers worldwide.

Key responsibilities include developing algorithms in spatial audio and psychoacoustics, such as Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) capture and synthesis, Ambisonics, and loudspeaker rendering. The engineer will gather requirements from research and user input, assist with platform integration, and perform systems-level multi-threaded programming and debugging using C and C++. Collaboration with international counterparts is essential to contribute to PlayStation’s Tempest 3D Audio technology and the broader audio ecosystem.

Candidates should have at least five years of experience in digital signal processing and proficiency in C/C++ and Python. Experience as a technical contributor to spatial audio projects and a solid understanding of acoustic and psychoacoustic principles are required. A bachelor's degree or equivalent is necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience with source control systems like Git, knowledge of audio production tools (e.g., Reaper, VST development), embedded systems development, graphics or GPU programming, machine learning or AI modeling, and the development of novel audio technologies.

The estimated base pay range for this role is $193,300 to $289,900 USD.
