The Bath office of Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. (LawNY®) is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to join its Housing Unit. This role focuses on providing direct legal representation to residents at risk of homelessness, primarily handling landlord-tenant matters. LawNY® is a not-for-profit law firm dedicated to delivering free civil legal services to low-income clients across a 14-county area in Western New York, the Finger Lakes, and the Southern Tier.

The Staff Attorney will manage a full caseload, representing eligible clients in eviction defense cases and related housing issues. Responsibilities include providing legal advice, negotiation, litigation, and administrative advocacy. The attorney will also collaborate with other advocates, human services providers, non-profit organizations, and community groups to address legal problems within the community, including offering community legal education.

Candidates must be admitted to practice and in good standing in New York State. A demonstrated commitment to serving low-income individuals is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, including a commitment to providing trauma-informed services, are highly valued. Experience incorporating an anti-racist and anti-oppressive lens into legal practice is also desirable.

The starting salary for a Staff Attorney at LawNY® with no experience is $70,000, with the potential to increase up to $106,100 based on experience. LawNY® offers an excellent benefits package, including 94% employer-paid medical premiums with 100% employer-paid in-network deductibles, 100% employer-paid dental and life insurance, and a 35-hour work week.
