Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney or Senior Counsel, Voting Rights Project [Term-Limited]
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is seeking a Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney, or Senior Counsel to join its Voting Rights Project. This full-time, term-limited position is based in either New York, NY, or Washington, DC, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring two in-office days per week. The Voting Rights Project, established in 1965, focuses on protecting and advancing voting rights through litigation, advocacy, and public education.
The selected candidate will engage in litigating constitutional and statutory cases related to voting rights. Responsibilities include researching and drafting legal documents, conducting discovery and motion practice, and representing clients in trial and appellate courts. Additionally, the role involves analyzing legislation for potential litigation, developing new cases and advocacy projects, and collaborating with ACLU state affiliates and other partners.
Applicants must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and have a minimum of three years of litigation experience, including clerkships. Membership in the New York or District of Columbia Bar is required. A strong commitment to voting rights, racial justice, and civil liberties is essential, along with excellent analytical, research, and communication skills. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team is also important.
The ACLU offers a competitive salary based on years since law school graduation, ranging from $92,374 to $210,677 annually.
