Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform
Scale AI is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team, focusing on the design and development of core data storage, streaming, caching, and indexing platforms. This role is pivotal in supporting our products, including the Generative AI Data Engine and SGP, which power advanced LLMs and generative models through world-class RLHF, human data generation, model evaluation, safety, and alignment. The data we produce is critical to shaping how humanity interacts with AI.
In this position, you will drive the architecture, design, implementation, and reliability of our foundational data platforms and systems. Collaborating closely with stakeholders and internal customers, you will refine requirements and define, design, and deliver new features. Your role also involves proactively identifying opportunities for improvements in current programming practices, including process enhancements and tool upgrades. Additionally, you will present technical information to teams and stakeholders, providing guidance and insight on development processes and technologies.
The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of full-time engineering experience, specializing in back-end systems related to large-scale data storage, streaming, and warehousing. Extensive experience with database technologies such as MongoDB and Postgres, streaming/processing solutions like Kinesis, Flink, and Spark, as well as indexing/caching tools like ElasticSearch and Redis, is essential. Proficiency with data query engines such as Trino, Presto, and Snowflake is also required. A proven track record of mentoring and leading teams in successful projects, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders are crucial. Experience with containerization and deployment technologies like Kubernetes and various public cloud offerings is also expected.
Compensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The base salary range for this full-time position in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle is $252,000 to $315,000 USD. Additional benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, and generous PTO. This role may also be eligible for additional benefits such as a commuter stipend.
