Structural Designer
Benesch, a growing, multi-disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm, is seeking a Structural Designer to join their dynamic Michigan Division. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Technicians on bridge and infrastructure projects in Michigan. The position is based in East Lansing or Novi, MI, requiring in-office presence five days a week.
As a Structural Designer, you will perform structural analysis of bridge and infrastructure project elements, develop load calculations and structural design computations, and prepare organized, detailed structural calculations and technical documentation. You will design and draft structural elements, details, and connection designs, develop plans and specifications using MicroStation software, and prepare complete and reviewable task deliverables that meet quality standards. Additionally, you will work independently under the guidance of Project Managers and Project Engineers, review and check structural calculations and design work, and participate in coordination meetings with multidisciplinary project teams.
The ideal candidate will have an M.S. in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis or be currently pursuing or planning to pursue a master's degree. An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain it within one year is required. Candidates should have 0-2 years of bridge design experience or relevant structural engineering internship experience. Proficiency with MicroStation for developing structural plans and specifications is preferred but not required. A strong understanding of structural engineering principles, building codes, and design standards is essential, along with the ability to perform structural analysis and design calculations. Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to meet design budgets and schedules are also important.
