Summer Legal Intern- ACLU-NJ
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU-NJ) is seeking highly motivated law students for its Summer 2025 Legal Internship program. This full-time, 10-week internship offers a hybrid work schedule, with in-person work in Newark on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and remote work on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a broad range of civil rights and liberties work, contributing to the ACLU-NJ's mission of defending individual rights and liberties in New Jersey.
Interns will work closely with staff members to conduct legal research, draft legal memoranda, and analyze state and local legislative or regulatory proposals impacting civil rights and liberties in New Jersey. Additional responsibilities may include drafting legal or advocacy correspondence, attending oral arguments in state and federal court, and participating in advocacy meetings and events involving clients, community partners, and government officials.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript (if available), and a writing sample of 5 to 10 pages double-spaced. For first-year law students without a writing sample, an alternative piece of writing and an explanation of when a legal writing sample will be available should be provided. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until positions are filled.
The ACLU-NJ is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities. Qualified individuals needing assistance applying online should email careers@ If selected for an interview, additional information regarding accommodation requests will be provided.
