Sixth Street, a global investment firm founded in 2009, is seeking a Tax Counsel – Asset Based Finance to join their New York office. This full-time position is integral to the firm's global Tax Team, focusing on structuring and managing tax aspects of Asset Based Finance (ABF) transactions. The role involves close collaboration with the ABF investment team, Core Platform, and external service providers, reporting directly to Sixth Street’s Director of Tax and Deputy Director of Tax.

In this role, the Tax Counsel will oversee tax considerations for various ABF investments, including credit facilities, syndicated debt offerings, platform equity investments, mortgage-backed investments, whole-loan sales, asset pools, forward flow arrangements, and securitizations across multiple asset classes. Responsibilities include advising on tax and structural aspects, developing and documenting processes related to preferred practices and tax positions, assisting with tax considerations for managing existing ABF investments, reviewing transaction documentation, conducting tax due diligence, and coordinating with the ABF investment team and Sixth Street Core on deal execution.

Candidates should have a minimum of six years of tax experience at a reputable law firm or nationally recognized accounting firm, with a specific focus on ABF, structured finance, and securitizations. Broad familiarity with complex financial transactions and tax structures for financings, securitizations, joint ventures, and other complex financial transactions is essential. Experience across asset classes, including residential mortgages, consumer loans, commercial real estate, and others, is required. An in-depth understanding of the ECI rules related to complex financial transactions is necessary. Strong tax technical abilities, the capacity to communicate complex tax concepts in commercial terms, and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment are also important.
