NPR is seeking a Temporary Associate General Counsel, Commercial Contracts, to join its Office of the General Counsel. This role involves leading a team of lawyers to deliver sophisticated commercial agreements, supporting NPR's mission-driven multimedia operations. The position is based in Washington, D.C., with hybrid work options available.

Key responsibilities include leading the design and execution of various agreements, such as membership agreements, network agreements, acquired program agreements, rights licenses, content deals, complex corporate sponsorships, brand integrations, and multi-platform advertising sales. The role also involves directing the acquisition and clearance of intellectual property for NPR’s flagship programming, negotiating mission-critical vendor agreements, overseeing the legal framework for NPR’s retail and licensing initiatives, providing counsel on contract disputes and risk allocation, and modernizing NPR’s library of commercial templates.

Candidates must have at least 15 years of experience focused on commercial law, with a track record of handling high-volume, high-complexity contract portfolios. Deep knowledge of copyright and trademark application within a media context, exceptional negotiation skills, and experience interpreting how commercial activity affects a 501(c)(3) organization’s tax-exempt status are required. Active membership in the D.C. Bar in good standing (or immediate eligibility to waive in) is also necessary.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $145,000 to $155,000 per annum, plus benefits.
