Ubuntu Security Engineer

Canonical is seeking an Ubuntu Security Engineer to join its globally distributed team dedicated to enhancing the security of the Ubuntu operating system. This role involves collaborating with internal teams and the open-source community to protect users from emerging threats and ensure the robustness of Ubuntu's security features.

Key responsibilities include analyzing, fixing, and testing vulnerabilities in open-source packages, tracking vulnerabilities within the Ubuntu ecosystem, and collaborating with other teams and upstream developers to develop and exchange vulnerability patches. The role also involves auditing source code for vulnerabilities and building features and tools to strengthen product security.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of common security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques, familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices, and experience with open-source development tools and methodologies. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript is required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication abilities, and experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu) are also essential.
