0to1 Engineer
Mozilla is seeking a 0to1 Engineer to join our open source AI initiative. This role focuses on rapidly transforming conceptual ideas into functional prototypes that demonstrate the capabilities of open AI infrastructure. As part of the team, you'll collaborate closely with Mozilla Intelligence, Harbor, and community engagement leads to create tangible artifacts that foster engagement and dialogue within the open source AI ecosystem.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing working prototypes of developer interfaces, tooling integrations, and applications built on open source AI platforms. Your workflow will incorporate coding agents and AI-assisted development tools to expedite the creation process. Additionally, you'll translate strategic concepts into demonstrable products suitable for community events and content, ensuring that your work is accessible and shareable to the developer community.
The ideal candidate will possess strong software engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript. Experience with the open source AI stack, including inference, orchestration, and evaluation, is essential. Familiarity with building APIs and developer-facing tools is also required. Comfort with public collaboration, including contributing to open repositories and engaging with community feedback, is crucial. Strong written communication skills are necessary to effectively convey technical concepts to a diverse audience.
This is a fixed-term, contract-based engagement offering flexible hours and an outcome-oriented working style. The annualized compensation for this role ranges from $200,000 to $227,250, with final terms determined based on the needs of the engagement and the selected contractor's experience. Work produced through this engagement is expected to be developed in the open, including public repositories and community-facing channels.
