Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment
The Assistant General Counsel, Labor & Employment at Strive Health will play a pivotal role in supporting the People Team on a comprehensive range of employment-related issues. This position is based in Houston, TX, and requires at least two days per week at Strive Health's Denver headquarters. Strive Health is dedicated to transforming chronic condition care by identifying risks earlier, coordinating thoughtful care, and supporting patients throughout their health journeys.
Key responsibilities include advising on employment law matters such as workplace investigations, terminations, discrimination, harassment, accommodations, compensation, benefits, and recruiting. The role involves collaborating with the People Team and business leaders to design compliant, scalable employment practices, overseeing employment litigation, mediations, EEOC matters, and arbitrations, and drafting and advising on human resources-related policies. Additionally, the Assistant General Counsel will stay updated on employment-related legal and compliance topics to effectively mitigate risks and provide guidance throughout the employment lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and membership in good standing with at least one state bar. A minimum of five years' experience in labor and employment counseling and litigation, either in a law firm or significant in-house counsel role, is required. A background in labor and employment-related healthcare regulations is strongly preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, exceptional critical thinking ability, strong business acumen, and demonstrated history of partnering and influencing business decisions are essential. The candidate should also exhibit strong leadership skills, a personal ethical code, and the ability to travel and be on-site as needed.
