Associate General Counsel - IP Strategy
AbbVie is seeking an Associate General Counsel to join its Intellectual Property, Transactions, and Innovation legal team, focusing on IP Strategy. This role involves developing and implementing intellectual property strategies for AbbVie's pharmaceutical products and candidates, contributing to the company's mission of delivering innovative medicines across key therapeutic areas.
The successful candidate will generate and implement IP strategies across various therapeutic areas and technologies, including both large and small molecules. Responsibilities include partnering with IP Prosecution to draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide, collaborating directly with scientists to create novel intellectual property, providing legal counsel to R&D and business teams on IP-related matters, and managing post-grant proceedings such as IPRs and oppositions.
Candidates must possess a JD degree from an accredited law school, be admitted to a state bar, and have registration to practice before the USPTO. A minimum of 7 years of experience in patent law, including substantial U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, is required. A technical background relevant to pharmaceutical patent prosecution, such as experience in small molecule or biological pharmaceutical discovery and development, or a degree in fields like molecular biology, biotechnology, or chemistry, is essential. Strong legal, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills are also necessary.
AbbVie offers a comprehensive compensation package, with a base salary ranging from $160,500 to $305,000 annually. Additional benefits include paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and participation in short-term and long-term incentive programs.
