Associate Legal Counsel, Japan
Airbnb is seeking an Associate Legal Counsel to join its Legal Department in Japan. This role involves providing comprehensive legal support to various teams and functions across the Asia-Pacific region, with a particular focus on operations, business development, and marketing within Japan. The successful candidate will be instrumental in navigating complex legal landscapes to support Airbnb's mission of creating a world where anyone can belong anywhere.
Key responsibilities include offering regulatory, compliance, and general commercial advice across a wide range of areas such as consumer rights, e-commerce, privacy, marketing, product counseling, dispute resolution, and industry-specific regulations. The role also entails managing legal risks effectively, collaborating with outside counsel across Japan, and participating in global and regional projects to ensure legal alignment and compliance.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified attorney in Japan (bengoshi) with 2-7 years of post-qualification experience. A master's degree and in-house experience in a multinational corporation or startup, particularly within the technology or travel industries, are advantageous. Native-level proficiency in Japanese and business-level proficiency in English are essential. The candidate should possess high integrity, excellent judgment, and a practical, business-oriented outlook, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
