The Associate Senior Privacy Counsel at Cigna will support the Office of Privacy and Innovation Governance, reporting directly to the Chief Privacy Counsel. This role involves providing legal counsel on privacy, cybersecurity, data use, and technology matters, with a particular focus on collaborating closely with the Evernorth business unit. The position requires a deep understanding of HIPAA, state and federal privacy laws, data use regulations, and breach notification laws, along with seasoned judgment and exceptional communication skills.

Key responsibilities include advising on advanced data use and acquisition, data mapping, classification, and related data management and governance. The role also involves managing complex legal issues and risks associated with data analytics, artificial intelligence, de-identification, and emerging technologies. Additionally, the counsel will support privacy, security, and data protection aspects of relationships and contracts with technology companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, health information exchanges, electronic medical records, app developers, and data aggregators.

The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor degree and have over eight years of experience in healthcare regulatory or privacy/cybersecurity law, preferably with in-house experience in a large, matrixed healthcare organization. Deep expertise in HIPAA, state and federal privacy laws, data governance frameworks, data use regulations, and breach notification requirements is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate strong negotiation skills, significant experience drafting and negotiating privacy and data-related contractual terms, and the ability to evaluate legal risks in complex technical environments, including analytics and AI.

Cigna offers a comprehensive compensation package for this role, with an anticipated annual salary ranging from $157,100 to $261,800, depending on experience and geographic location. The position is also eligible for participation in an annual bonus and long-term incentive plan.
