Backend Engineer - NorthAm Risk
The Backend Engineer role at Wise focuses on enhancing the North America Risk team's capabilities in safeguarding customers and the business from financial crimes. This team is pivotal in managing substantial transaction volumes through advanced risk and fraud prevention systems that operate seamlessly and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include implementing real-time risk assessments using cutting-edge machine learning models, particularly for features like Instant ACH, which offers immediate transfers in the U.S. market. The engineer will collaborate closely with software engineers, data analysts, and data scientists to design new rules, refine machine learning models, and support chargeback and fraud investigation teams. Additionally, the role involves expanding the scope to address comprehensive risk types in the U.S. and Canada, including sanctions and anti-money laundering (AML) measures.
Candidates should possess over four years of experience with Java, Kotlin, or other JVM-based languages, with a strong understanding of the Spring framework. A deep knowledge of JDBC, database internals, and query optimization is essential, along with hands-on experience with real-time event processing tools like Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink. The role requires expertise in designing scalable, resilient distributed systems, a customer-centric approach to problem-solving, and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences. Experience in cross-functional collaboration, particularly with data scientists and analysts, is also crucial.
The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from HUF 1,280,000 to HUF 1,700,000.
