Backend Software Engineer - Product & Features (Java) - Open to remote across ANZ
Canva is seeking a Backend Software Engineer specializing in Java to join our Product & Features team. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely across Australia and New Zealand, aligning with our mission to empower the world to design. As part of our dynamic engineering team, you'll contribute to building scalable services that enhance user experiences and support internal systems at scale.
In this position, you'll design and implement backend features within our existing service architecture, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, collaborating with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers, and participating in code reviews and technical discussions. Additionally, you'll play a key role in maintaining system health by writing tests, improving observability, and addressing performance issues.
The ideal candidate has experience building backend systems using Java in a production environment, with strong fundamentals in multithreading, service design, and performance optimization. A solid understanding of distributed systems and proficiency in developing and consuming RESTful APIs are essential. We value individuals who apply sound engineering practices, write maintainable code, and thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams. Hands-on experience using AI in coding and programming to drive greater impact is also highly regarded.
