Billing Systems Architect
As an Enterprise Billing Systems Architect at Upsun, you will serve as the technical anchor for our billing infrastructure, ensuring seamless revenue operations, pricing structures, and financial integrations as our business scales. This role bridges Finance, Product, and Engineering teams, translating complex business, pricing, and accounting rules into reliable system logic. You will work closely with core engineering and data mediation teams to maintain the integrity of our Quote-to-Cash (Q2C) platform, continuously optimizing its performance and automation.
Your key responsibilities will include configuring and administering the BillingPlatform environment, managing catalogs, price cards, usage rating rules, and automated invoice schedules. You will oversee system operations and maintenance, handling system updates, pricing launches, troubleshooting recurring bill runs, managing synchronization exceptions, and resolving root-cause issues. Utilizing SQL, you will perform data validation, rating engine auditing, and operational reporting, collaborating with Engineering to receive mediated usage data through systems like DigitalRoute or Kafka. Additionally, you will maintain and optimize API-driven integrations connecting BillingPlatform to upstream CRMs (e.g., Salesforce), downstream ERP/GL tools (e.g., NetSuite), and payment gateways (e.g., Stripe). Partnering closely with Accounting, you will ensure system rating rules, revenue schedules, and general ledger mappings comply with ASC 606 and IFRS 15 standards. You will also gather technical and operational requirements from Accounting, Finance, Sales Operations, and Product teams, translating their needs into sustainable platform configurations. Maintaining billing data continuity and managing subscription data updates or migrations without disrupting ongoing financial operations or revenue recognition flows will also be part of your role.
To be successful in this role, you should have proven hands-on experience configuring and administering enterprise Quote-to-Cash or billing platforms such as Zuora, Salesforce Revenue Cloud/CPQ, NetSuite Billing, Aria Systems, or BillingPlatform. Strong proficiency with SQL for querying and auditing billing data is essential, along with a solid understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and ETL workflows. Experience supporting complex SaaS or infrastructure pricing models—including PLG, hybrid commitment-plus-usage, tiered rates, and consumption-based/metered billing—is highly desirable. A practical understanding of revenue recognition fundamentals under ASC 606 and IFRS 15, and the ability to bridge technical language and financial business logic while collaborating with engineering teams and accounting stakeholders, are crucial. A methodical approach to diagnosing system synchronization errors, rating anomalies, and integration edge cases to ensure operational continuity is also important.
