Chief of Staff
The Chief of Staff at Chicago Public Media serves as the primary strategic partner to the Editor-in-Chief (EIC), overseeing journalistic content, managing high-level projects, and ensuring operational efficiency. This role acts as a liaison between the editorial department and the business side of the organization, focusing on long-term initiatives and strategic goals beyond daily editorial cycles.
Key responsibilities include translating the EIC's vision into actionable priorities, tracking progress on organizational goals, and managing daily operations to enhance productivity. The Chief of Staff also facilitates communication between the EIC and content staff, leads critical cross-functional projects from inception to completion, and provides analytical support to mitigate risks and inform decision-making.
Candidates should have over eight years of experience in editorial operations or leadership roles, with a strong background in managing editorial staff and demonstrating sound editorial judgment. Experience in strategic planning across digital, audio, and visual platforms, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in storytelling are essential. A bachelor's degree in journalism, business, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred.
The position offers a salary range of $118,100 to $147,620 per annum, along with comprehensive benefits.
