Commercial Counsel, GTM
Canva is seeking a business-minded lawyer to join its Commercial Legal team as a Commercial Counsel, GTM. This role involves supporting the company's rapidly growing Enterprise and Public Sector business by reviewing and negotiating a high volume of commercial agreements across various sectors, including Enterprise, Public Sector, Higher Education, and strategic partnerships. The position offers flexibility in work location, with options to work from Canva's hubs in San Francisco, Austin, or remotely.
The primary responsibilities include reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements with customers, vendors, and partners. The role also involves supporting and evolving Canva's contracting approach for government and public sector customers, navigating procurement requirements, regulatory obligations, and government-specific contracting frameworks. Additionally, the Commercial Counsel will support partner-led and channel transactions, respond promptly to legal questions from stakeholders, and contribute to the development of contract templates and legal resources.
Candidates should have hands-on experience reviewing and negotiating a variety of contracts at a fast-paced technology company, including experience with government and public sector SaaS transactions. A proactive approach to identifying and analyzing opportunities and risks is essential. Excellent communication skills, the ability to simplify complex concepts, and comfort working in cross-functional and internationally distributed teams are also required. Familiarity with AI tools and workflows, or a willingness to learn, is considered a plus.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $190,000 to $292,000, along with equity packages, health benefits plans, a 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution, inclusive parental leave policy, an annual Vibe & Thrive allowance, and flexible leave options.
