Karat is seeking a Community Engineer to join the Brilliant Black Minds (BBM) team, dedicated to increasing access for diverse software engineers by connecting a community of over 11,000 members with networks, opportunities, and technical interview preparation resources. This role is pivotal in driving the technical evolution of BBM, focusing on building AI-powered tools, automations, and experiences that support the community's growth and success.

In this position, you will lead projects from design through release, developing and maintaining scalable services, components, and APIs. Responsibilities include integrating LLM APIs and AI-enhanced capabilities into BBM's technical interview preparation offerings, building tooling and automations to scale community operations, and managing day-to-day community activities such as moderating Discord channels and engaging with members across experience levels.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of professional experience designing and shipping web applications or distributed systems to production. Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks, particularly Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Ruby, is strongly preferred. Experience with system architecture, database design, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and familiarity with LLM APIs or AI-enhanced product features are essential. Active involvement in the technical community and strong communication skills are also important.

Compensation varies by geographic location, with base salaries ranging from $108,544.10 to $162,112.50 USD. Karat offers a comprehensive benefits package, including employer-sponsored healthcare, 401(k) matching, flexible time off, and parental leave.
