Community Manager (Open-Source AI)
Mozilla is seeking a contract-based Community Manager to build and activate a global community of developers working on open-source AI. This role involves identifying and engaging with developers, organizing events, and fostering partnerships to support Mozilla's mission of keeping the internet open and accessible.
Key responsibilities include designing and running in-person events in cities where open AI builders are active, collaborating with ecosystem partners to co-produce events, and managing logistics to ensure successful outcomes. The Community Manager will also develop and pitch partnership opportunities, structure collaborations that provide real value to builders, and engage with online communities on platforms like GitHub, Discord, Reddit, and Hacker News.
The ideal candidate has experience in building or managing technical communities, understands the difference between a community and an audience, and has worked with sponsors or partners to create mutually beneficial relationships. Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to operate in early-stage programs are essential, along with a genuine enthusiasm for open-source AI.
This is a fixed-term contract opportunity with a budgeted annualized equivalent salary range of $128,000 to $243,500. Final contract terms, including scope, weekly hours, duration, and payment structure, will be determined based on the needs of the engagement and the selected contractor’s experience.
Mozilla offers a collaborative and mission-driven work environment, providing opportunities to work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams. This role allows for significant impact in shaping community programs that are credible to developers and supported by strong external relationships.
