Compliance Officer - North America

The Compliance Officer for North America at Remote will play a pivotal role in ensuring the company's compliance with regulatory standards across the continent, including overseeing the Canadian regulated entity. This position is integral to Remote's Financial Services subgroup, which holds payment licenses in Canada, the UK, and Europe, and is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in customer due diligence, anti-money laundering (AML), and counter-financing terrorism (CFT).

In this role, the Compliance Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing robust procedures for vetting customers in North America, ensuring alignment with regulatory and payment partner expectations. Key duties include drafting policies related to customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, screening measures, risk assessments, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, and sanctions compliance. The officer will also lead AML/CFT audits for Remote's Canadian regulated entity and other North American activities, manage relationships with external advisors, and prepare and submit accurate reports to regulatory authorities.

Candidates should possess extensive experience within the financial sector's second line of defense, with a strong background in financial crime compliance. Expert knowledge of Canadian payments legislation, particularly with FINTRAC (specifically MSB rules) and the Bank of Canada's RPAA, is essential. Professional AML/MLRO certifications are required, and fluency in English is mandatory. While experience in U.S. AML compliance roles and remote work is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite.
